Therapeutic Arts Alliance Manhattan (TAAM) offers a forum for mental health professionals, educators, artists, and students to explore the integration of the creative arts within a therapeutic group context. The training and development of group leaders in the curative potential of interfacing art therapy, drama therapy, and group treatment can create a vibrant catalyst for restorative trauma work. TAAM draws from the creative arts disciplines of art, dance, music, poetry, and story.
The TAAM faculty collectively guides a process of didactic and experiential learning through interactive peer-exploration. Central to our core philosophy of building integrity and professional identity within a relational model,
TAAM encourages facilitators and participants in the development of the highest standards of group leadership and conscious community through immersion within a healing framework.
TAAM's offerings including intensive living laboratory workshops, on-site workshops in varying communities, educational presentations, lectures, master classes, supervision, TAAM-LAB's for exploration of ideas-in-process, satelite intensives and a community journal.
Dissolving Duality for Our Own Healing:
An Exploration through Yoga, Mindfulness, and Art
Facilitated by Ann Friedenheim, MA, CAADC, RYT
Saturday, March 24, 2012
10am-4pm
In this full day workshop, we will examine the way we often disown aspects of ourselves by way of judgments, expectations and messages from long ago. We will look at how, when it comes to self acceptance, we so often treat others with greater kindness than we do ourselves.
To help cultivate an attitude of compassion and honesty, participants will be invited to slow down and engage in a process of self exploration and integration. We will be using mindfulness practices such as Kripalu and LifeForce Yoga, artwork, writing and sharing to better connect to a non-dualistic sense of ourselves in which we can rest and appreciate all that we are.
Participants are asked to bring an object that represents "feeling safe in the face of challenge". Also, please bring a yoga mat (if you have one), a blanket and any
other yoga props you might use. We will be writing so bring a journal if you like although paper will be provided.
We will be lying down on the floor for extended periods of time for those who are able. Chairs will also be provided for people who prefer to sit.
